Dedicated Pediatric Care for Every Stage of Health

Here are a few helpful things for those years between newborn and adolescence.

Well Child Visit

Well child visits are one of the most valuable ways we can support your child’s health and development. As parents, we all want to keep our children safe and healthy—and preventive care is an important part of that protection. That’s why we strongly recommend regular well child visits and immunizations from infancy through adolescence.

These visits give our providers the opportunity to partner with you and your family, working together to support your child’s physical, mental, and social well-being at every stage of growth.

During the well child visit, your provider may discuss any of the following areas:

  • Growth and development
  • Immunizations
  • Nutrition
  • Behavior
  • Hearing and vision
  • Adolescence
  • Medication education
  • Specialty referrals
  • Reading with your child
  • Any concerns you may have

Because every insurance plan covers well child visits a little differently, our team is happy to help you determine the right schedule for your child. Just give us a call, and we’ll guide you through what’s recommended for your coverage. In general, we suggest scheduling well visits at the following ages:

  • 2 weeks
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months and/or 18 months
  • 2 years
  • Once a year at all ages over 2 years.

Car Seat Safety

Car seat safety is one of the most important ways you can protect your child, and it’s also required by law. The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly encourages keeping children rear-facing as long as possible, since rear-facing car seats are the safest option for infants and toddlers. In fact, studies show they can reduce the risk of serious injury in a crash by more than 70 percent. Children between the ages of one and five—or under 40 pounds—must remain in a forward-facing car seat. That “or” is key: little ones should weigh at least 40 pounds before being turned forward.  As children grow, they’ll transition to a booster seat between ages five and six, then to a seat belt in the back seat between six and twelve. For their safety, children should always remain in the back until at least age 13.

Asthma Care

Asthma is one of the most common childhood conditions, and while many children improve as they grow older, it’s important to ensure they receive the very best care along the way. To support families, we offer a dedicated asthma clinic twice a month, usually every other Friday, at our Adolescent Clinic in Tuscumbia. During these visits, we can perform Pulmonary Function Tests to check your child’s breathing, review their maintenance medications, and make sure they have the refills they need. We also work closely with families to develop asthma action plans, helping children stay active, manage symptoms, and avoid flare-ups. An appointment can be scheduled during an in-person visit if your provider recommends it, or you are welcome to call our office directly to set one up. Our goal is always to keep children healthy and out of the emergency room. Erica Jantzen, CRNP, specializes in asthma care and is committed to providing excellent support for your child through this clinic.
